Orlo Clark, MD Endocrine Surgery Lectureship at UCSF

Orlo Clark - 144xDr. Orlo H. Clark served as Chief of Surgery at Mt. Zion Medical Center and the Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery. He was trained at Cornell University Medical School and at UCSF and did an Endocrine Surgical Fellowship at the Royal Postgraduate Medical Center in London. He has held many leadership positions in the Department of Surgery at UCSF and has been President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the American Thyroid Association, and the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons. He has also been listed among the top surgeons in America in numerous publications.

Dr. Clark has also been recognized for his outstanding teaching accomplishments at UCSF. At the conclusion of their training, fellows taught by Dr. Clark have secured faculty appointments at world-class institutions including Cornell, Columbia, UCSF, UCLA, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Cleveland Clinic, University of Vancouver, University of Wisconsin, MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Iowa, Harvard, University of Rochester, University of Arizona, University of Chicago and NYU.

His research focused primarily on what makes thyroid cancers grow and spread to other areas of the body, as well as understanding the geneticbasis of familial thyroid cancer. Other research areas involved treatment of parathyroid and adrenal diseases.

We would like to continue the spirit of teaching, learning and collaboration that so characterize Dr. Clark’s career by establishing a lectureship in his name. In honor of his many accomplishments we are raising funds for the Orlo Clark, MD Endocrine Surgery Lectureship at UCSF.

Our goal is to create an ongoing symposium with an invited lecturer. At UCSF, this endowed position will be a fitting tribute to Dr. Clark because it will ensure continued learning for faculty within the discipline of endocrine surgery.

* Please note we are hoping to raise sufficient funds to endow the lectureship in perpetuity. In the event that the minimum amount needed for a permanent endowed lectureship ($100,000) is not reached by June 30, 2014 and it does not then appear likely that the minimum amount will be raised, the funds may instead be used on a current basis to support the lectures.
